Edwards is the "third man" in the race to win the Democrat nomination. He threw in the towel in February when he noticed he had not ant chance to win but he still has many supporters. In fact, his name was in the ballot papers of the primary elections in Western Virginia and he won 7 percent of the votes.
There was a sense of great expectancy to see who Edwards was going to support. He targeted the same voters' group than Clinton so he was likely to support the New York senator. However, at the end , he has backed Obama, which increases substantially his chances.
Most of the prominent people in the Democrat party have said they will back Obama, including the Kennedy family and Richardon despite many of them owe a favor to Clinto in return for the times when Bill was at the White Hoise and Hillary was the "First Lady".
Al Gore, who was Bill Clinton's vice-president, has not said anything yet but his silence is quite meaningful in the sense that he has not backed explicitly Hillary. Therefore, Obama is closer and closer to winning the Democrat nomination. Now, it is moment to wonder whether he has real chances to win in November and whether the concealed racism in the Western Virginia primary elections is only a local phenomenon or can be extrapolated to the whole country.
