The corpse of the Spanish policeman killed by ETA in Legutio will lie in the funeral chapel in the office of the Spanish government in Vitoria-Gasteiz until the funeral takes place at 10:30.

Spaniards are mourning the death of Juan Manuel Piñuel, a Spanish policeman killed on Wednesday.

A wake is being held for 41-year-old Juan Manuel Piñuel in Vitoria-Gasteiz. The corpse of the Spanish policeman will lie in the funeral chapel in the office of the Spanish government in Vitoria-Gasteiz until the funeral takes place at 10:30 in the new cathedral.

Basque Prime Minister Juan José Ibarretxe and Spanish Government's Deputy Prime Minister María Teresa Fernández de la Vega are expected to attend the funeral services for the Spanish policeman.

Protest rallies are planned in several Basque cities at 12:00.

Piñuel was killed in an attack against a police barracks in Legutio on Wednesday blamed on the armed Basque group ETA.

Police said there was no advance warning of the blast, in which two men and two women officers were also hurt, and no one had claimed responsibility.
