Hundreds of people met on Saturday in the Navarran town of Sartaguda to inaugurate a park in tribute to victims of the Spanish Civil War.

The commemorative park seeks to pay tribute to 86 inhabitants of Sartaguda, known as the "town of the widows", that were executed by a firing squad during the Spanish Civil War. The tribute also includes victims of the Civil War in the whole region of Navarre.

The park includes three sculptures of three prominent artists. Joxe Ulibarrena's sculpture depicts three young men embracing before facing a firing squad. Nestor Basterretxea depicts the silhouette of man who is going to be executed on a wall riddled on wallets. The third sculpture in the park, made by José Ramón Anda, serves as an entrance to the park.
