Investigation of ETA attacks continue

05/02/2008

According to some media, the fact that the three bombs exploded during the same night in different provinces prove the armed group has operative groups around the Basque Autonomous Community.

Three bombs exploded Thursday in the Basque Country in suspected attacks by the Basque armed group ETA but no one was injured, officials said.

All three blasts targeted government buildings dealing with labor issues, and came on the May Day holiday, which marks the international day of the worker.

The Basque regional police said one of the bombs went off in Arrigorriaga near Bilbao and the other two in Donostia-San Sebastian.

The police said no warning preceded the first bomb which was powerful and targeted a Labor Ministry building. The other two bomb explosions were preceded by a call from someone who claimed to represent ETA and identified where the bombs would explode before dawn.

The last two bombs were much smaller and exploded near a Basque government office housing the agency dealing with workplace safety, a Basque police official said. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of department rules barring him from giving his name.
