Spain’s High Court Public Prosecutor asked for the provisional and unconditional imprisonment of the Mayor of Arrasate/Mondragón Ino Galparsoro. She is accused of collaboration with armed group, legal disobedience and breaking of preventive measures.

Official sources pointed out that they still have to confirm if she is also accused of integration in armed group. They will reveal this information after they receive a police report they are waiting for.

The mayor has been transferred to High Court cell, where she must stay until Spanish judge Baltasar Garzón announces his decision, this evening at about 19:00 (local time GMT+2).

During the questioning, the Public Prosecutor Dolores Delgado explained that as representative of the Basque leftist group ANV, she is “the institutional voice of the Basque armed group ETA and she reminded everybody that since 1987 she has taken part in political activities in the heart of organizations linked to ETA, EH and Herri Aritza”.

She also said that she has not been linked to the Basque leftist party ANV until 2007 and she underlined that since January 2008, the armed group has begun a new strategy “followed by Batasuna, Ekin and ANV”.

The Mayor of Arrasate/Mondragón arrived at Spain’s High Court this morning to testify before Baltasar Garzón, who summoned her to give evidence on April 25. He thought that with her latest activities, she has broken the law that rules her party must suspend its political activities.
