Osasuna came back empty-handed from their visit to Mestalla (3-0). The decision taken by the referee, Ontanaya López, in minute 19 was the outcome of the match. He called a nonexistent penalty of Ricardo against Villa. The home team took a 21st-minute lead through David Villa's penalty, awarded after Osasuna goalkeeper Ricardo Lopez was adjudged to have tripped the striker and was sent off. Villa did not fail from a distance of eleven meters.

Juan Manuel Mata added a second goal in the 52nd, with Joaquin Sanchez sealing the win in the 84th.

Nine minutes before the end of the match Joaquín scored the definitive goal 3-0.

Voro gave goalkeeper Santiago Canizares his first start since December. The veteran had been axed by Koeman in December, together with Spain midfielders David Albelda and Miguel Angel Angulo, who were recalled to the bench. Angulo appeared as a late substitute.

The Valencia-based side's 23rd defeat of the season left them five points behind Real Murcia at the bottom of the table and 15 points behind Osasuna, who occupy the last place above the drop zone.
