The city council of the Basque town of Hernani rejected on Friday the vote of censure proposed by Basque Nationalist Party PNV and Basque Socialist Party PSE-EE due to EB member’s abstention. With the censure, they demanded the resignation of the city councillors who do not condemn ETA’s violence, due to EB member’s abstention.

The representative of the Basque leftist coalition EB-B/Aralar Beatriz Fernandino said after getting out of the city hall that a tie had happened because she abstained.

Basque Socialist Party PSE/EE, Basque nationalist parties PNV and EA and Spanish Popular Party PP supported the proposal. The mayor of Hernani Marian Beitialarrangoitia voted against the censure and as she represents eight city councillors, it was not accepted.
