Atlantic Ocean may contain world’s third-largest oil reserve

The head of Brazil's National Petroleum Agency says a deep-water exploration area in the Atlantic Ocean could contain as much as 33 billion barrels of oil.

If true, that would make the field the world's third-largest oil reserve, and the largest find in decades.

Haroldo Lima cautions that his information on the field off the coast of Rio de Janeiro is unofficial and still needs to be confirmed. The state-run Petrobras oil company isn't commenting.

But Petrobras shares soared more than 5 percent on Monday's report.
