Basque Prime Minister, Juan José Ibarretxe, has described the attack in which the prime socialist councelor Isaías Carrasco has been shot to death as "savagery and inhuman barbarity act".

He has refused to do a "political reading" about the attack that took place in the same day electoral campaign ended in order not to give Basque armed group ETA any kind of "protagonism". He has called society to rally tomorrow at Basque institutions.

At an appearance in the media, in which he has been backed by counselors Joseba Azkarraga and Javier Madrazo, Ibarretxe has pointed out that ETA, "has made as be in mourning again, it has broken all Basque society’s hearts into pieces". "ETA deserves our most absolute and strong sentence", he has said.

He has also assured that Basque police "is working to arrest and take to court the ones who have committed this cruel attack".

In his opinion, "murdering a man in the street, a simple worker, a simple father and husband is an act with an overdose of cowardice and massive meanness."
