The group of people could not be identified as the security members of the Embassy were blinded by the tear gas.

AP Television footage showed the exterior of the Spanish Embassy already cleaned on Saturday, but with remnants of the graffiti still faintly visible.

The graffiti had depicted the figures of the King of Spain, the Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, the director of the Venezuelan television channel Globovision Federico Ravell and the Venezuelan journalist Leopoldo Castillo.
The group also wrote slogans supporting the Basque separatist group.

Venezuelan authorities, who are in charge of security for foreign delegations, immediately condemned the attack. The Spanish Foreign Minister minimized the relevance of the attack
