Two suspected ETA rebels arrested on Sunday were behind the bombing of a Madrid airport car park in 2006 that killed two people and wrecked peace talks with the Basque separatist group, the government said on Wednesday. "These are the people who caused the (December 2006) explosion which killed two people in Terminal Four," Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba told a news conference.
The news of a major ETA arrest comes as the Socialist government campaigns for general elections on March 9.
The government broke off peace talks with ETA after a car bomb wrecked a car park at Madrid airport's Terminal Four, killing two Ecuadorean immigrants who had gone to sleep in parked vehicles.
Martin Sarasola and Igor Portu were arrested in the Basque Country on Sunday and found to be carrying hidden arms. Portu was admitted to intensive care shortly afterwards, suffering from a broken rib and a punctured lung, and the government said he was hurt resisting arrest.
