Miren Azkarate, spokeswoman for the Basque Government, said the judge decision to make the Basque PM stand trial goes against "Basque society and their majority will to reach peace."
In a press conference on Tuesday, Miren Azkarate said the judge's decision follows a "political wish" and reminded the ruling goes against other High Court rulings over meetings with Batasuna members and against the prosecutors' decision, who said they saw no evidence of a crime.
High Court didn't admit the lawsuit lodged by Manos Limpias (Clean Hands) against the President of the Spanish Government, and Azkarate said "what is valid for the Spanish President is not valid for the Basque President".
"We are facing a serious historic event, for the first time in history, the Basque President will have to face court for doing his political function, for which he was chosen by the Basque society", the spokeswoman underlined.
The judge and the Civil and Criminal Room "observes the positive attitude of talking as a criminal offence, and due to that, they criminalize the political dialogue", she added.
The decision of having a judgement "goes against this society and against the country that gave the power to the President so that he could solve political problems". Basque society is amazed with the fact that the President will have to face court" the spokeswoman added.
