Fifteen migrants found inside cargo ship container in Barcelona

Spanish police found 15 migrants inside a cargo ship container in the northeastern port of Barcelona on Saturday, police said.

The migrants, eight men, two women and five children, were discovered after a port worker heard shouts for help coming from inside the container, police spokesman Rafael Jimenez said.

The migrants are believed to be Palestinians from Gaza. It was not immediately known how long the 15 had been in the container but police believe they were on the ship when it set sail from Turkey several days ago.

The 15, suffering from exhaustion and hunger, were taken to hospitals in the city. All but one were released hours later. Police said all 15 would be returned to Turkey.

Prior to arriving in Barcelona, the vessel, which was flying Marshall Islands flag of convenience, had stopped in Marseilles. Spanish National Television said the boat was bound for Britain.
