La Plata Univ. will offer Basque Language and Culture fellowship

08/13/2007

The courses will be held from February 15, 2008 to December 2008, with four teaching hours a week. The universities of Buenos Aires, Tandil and Bahia Blanca expect to introduce the programme in the near future.

The University of La Plata in Argentina will set up a fellowship programme on Basque Language and Culture to be held from February 15, 2008 to December 2008, with four teaching hours a week.

As the Basque Government informed, the initiative is the result of an agreement reached by the linguistic policies' vice-councillor, Patxi Baztarrika, and the vice-president of the Argentinean university, Raul Perdomo.

Likewise, Baztarrika and advisor Lorea Bilbao, at the time being in Argentina, held several meetings with managers of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) so that a similar initiative materialises next year in the main university of the Republic of Argentina.

In turn, Baztarrika and Bilbao visited the Party of Tandil, where, apart from meeting the Basque Club and its managers, they presented the fellowship programme. The Etxepare Institute and the University of Tandil valued "very positively" the possibility to include the programme in their offer.

After lecturing at the Basque Club of Union of Bahia Blanca, the two envoys of the Basque Government will hold meetings with the rector of the University of Bahia Blanca to introduce the programme in this university as well.
