New York's Fifth Avenue

Until now we haven't talked about security in New York. According to some International researches, the Great Apple is one of the world's most secure cities. Taking into account the size and the people that walk through one side of the city to the other, the robs, people being held up and other criminal actions are only anecdotes.

There are so many policemen in the city, that criminality suppose a bravery act and a challenge to justice. The uniforms wore by New York's are part "of the city, such as the thousands of cars, with sirens and lights, mking too much noise."

Walking through Madison Avenue gives the opportunity to enjoy the luxurious shop windows and see limousines only available for rich people and for everybody at films, but not only that.

Saturday, Fifth Avenue could easily be part of the film Police Academy. In a few seconds, dozens of police cars crossed the luxurious avenue at a high speed, skidding and with the sirens and lights on.

Only tourists turned their head to see it and took their cameras to take a photo of that amazing moment. People from New York is used to that kind of police parades, exhibitions or as they call it "try outs". And I ask myself, do they have to try out to park 30 police cars on a row, so that photos are amazing?

For some minutes it seems that chaos takes over the city and the Fifth Avenue seems to loose all its luxury and glamour to become a New York's police's car park. Policemen, after deafening half Manhattan with so much noise, leave their fantastic cars, laugh and sometimes also pose so that impressed tourists can take photos of them.

Without any doubt, it is an extravagant and unusual spectacle, but not because of that less interesting.

The aim of the deployment…? There are several reasons: To show tourists how they work as part of the city, to show the immense and unstoppable police presence, to impose some kind of respect… But the main reason is to calm those citizens who are still living under the psychosis and pressure of the 11/9.

Once again, this is New York.
