Mexican immigration officials on Tuesday deported a suspected member of the Basque armed group ETA.

Andoni Aspiazu Alcelay was arrested in the tourist city of Cuernavaca, 50 miles (85 kilometres) south of the Mexican capital, for being in the country without a visa, Mexico's National Migration Institute said in a news release.

Aspiazu had been found after an anonymous tip off, it said. Europa Press reported from Madrid that there was an arrest order for Aspiazu in Spain for allegedly financing terrorist activities and that he was flown there to face charges.

ETA called off a 15-month cease fire with the Spanish government last week, blaming it for ruining the peace process and saying it will be “active on all fronts,” a threat interpreted as meaning it would resume its attacks.
