Basque solo sailing skipper Unai Basurko has crossed the finish line of the VELUX 5 OCEANS in Bilbao (Basque Country) at 10:03:45 local time (08:03:45 GMT). The 34 year old sailor completed the third and final leg of the VELUX 5 OCEANS onboard PAKEA after a transatlantic sprint that started in Norfolk (USA) 17 days, 16 hours and 43 minutes ago.

The challenge started on the 22nd of October 2006 when the fleet left Bilbao. Six month later and after 158 days, 18 hours and 25 minutes at sea, Unai’s result marks an extraordinary achievement. The result guarantees third place overall in the race, knocking Sir Robin Knox-Johnston off the podium. Hundreds of spectator boats greeted PAKEA, despite torrential rain and thunder.
