China will restrict foreign citizens' adoptions through a law that will come into force on May 1, Tuesday.
Thus, only stable, married couples formed by a male and a female married for at least two years will be allowed to adopt children.
Likewise, this measure will cut the only channel available for homosexuals up to this moment to adopt.
Minimum personal assets of euro59,000
In addition, health problems, such as alcoholism and depression, hinder the adoption, and families must have minimum personal assets of euro59,000.
These requirements could leave half of potential adoptive parents outside, rejected by the Chinese Adoption Centre.
As the director of a Chinese adoption centre noted, restrictions are due to the huge amount of petitions received every year. That is why, according to Chinese authorities, the target is to find the best families.
