Askatasuna calls to manifest despite banning

Askatasuna called to participate in the rally for self-determination and amnesty, organized for Saturday afternoon in the Basque city of Bilbao and banned on Friday by Spain's High Court judge Baltasar Garzón.

The Spanish High Court judge reported the Basque Government's Interior Department on the ban, which says the rally callers have links with the outlawed organization Askatasuna.

Askatasuna's spokesman Julen Larrinaga called Basque society to participate in the rally and demand self-determination rights and amnesty for prisoners belonging to the armed group ETA.

The gathering has been deemed illegal by Garzón because it has been convened by outlawed organisation Askatasuna.
