Spain's High Court judge Baltasar Garzón banned Friday a rally called for Saturday in the Basque city of Bilbao to back the rights of the ETA prisoners, according to data by the Basque public media group EiTB.

The rally had been called by Basque leftist militants to demand an amnesty for prisoners belonging to the armed group ETA.

The gathering has been deemed illegal by Garzón because it has been convened by outlawed organisation Askatasuna.
