Public Prosecutor halves sentence request in 18/98 indictment

Public Prosecutor Enrique Molina withdrew the charge against the lawyer Pepe Uruñuela and reduced request for Xabier Alegría from 51 to 13 years. By consequence, the prison request came down from 927 to 484 years.

The Public Prosecutor Enrique Molina started with the reading of the final conclusions of the hearing linked to the 18/98 case, in which several groups of the Basque society are sentenced to belong to the milieu of the armed group ETA.

Enrique Molina announced he will withdraw the charge against the lawyer Pepe Uruñuela.

Moreover, he reduced by almost half the prison request for 53 of the accused.

After 17 months of macro-trial, the largest trial of Spain’s National Court’s history, Molina modified part of its provisional conclusions and reduced some of the requests.
