The low-cost airline Ryanair chartered its first flight linking Vitoria-Gasteiz and Dublin on Wednesday, January 24. The company expects to attract 60,000 passengers every year following the success the flight linking Vitoria-Gasteiz and London is having, with 89,000 passengers in the first year running.
There will be four flights a week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The departure from Dublin will be at 6:15am, arriving in Vitoria-Gasteiz at 9:30am. Meanwhile, planes will depart from the Basque capital at 9:55am, arriving in Dublin at 11:05am.
The airline has already started a promotion campaign, selling tickets at 0.01 euros in its Web site. Adding the taxes, anyone can fly from Vitoria-Gasteiz to the Irish capital for around 35 euros.
The company has public funds' help, as the Promotion Society of the Foronda Airport has an agreement with Ryanair to give the company 1,050,000 euros: 50,000 euros when the operations started, 400,000 euros last year to fix the first two flights (to London and Dublin), and 600,000 euros in 2007 for the maintenance of these two routes and a possible third one.
