The English Premier League strugglers won the first leg at home 2-1 and were held to a one-all draw in Poland but that was enough to see them progress from the first round.

Spurs travelled to Krakow on Thursday for their UEFA Cup first round, second leg tie, holding a 2-1 advantage from the first round. The pressure was on the English Premier League side however, standing bottom of their domestic standings.

The visitors started with an attacking line-up but had little to show for their efforts in a lacklustre first half. Instead it was their Polish opponents who threatened. Their best chance came towards the end of the half when Radoslaw Sobolewski raced through the Spurs defence, after being played in by substitute Wojciech Lobodzinski, but Gomes was able to save with his feet.

Then against the run of play, it was Spurs who took the lead thanks to an own goal from Arkadiusz Glowacki in the 58th minute. The pressure came from Fraizer Campbell, who looking to get on the end of Gareth Bale's pass from the wing, dived forward, forcing the Wisla captain to make the error. That goal seemed to give the visitors more confidence and seven minutes later Didier Zokora raced through the Krakow defence from the half-way line, but then fired his shot in the area just wide of the far post.

Krakow kept pressing forward however and were rewarded for their efforts in the 83rd minute when Pawel Brozek brought them back on level terms. Gomes raced forward to try to put the striker off-guard after he received the pass from Junior Diaz, but Brozek was able to lob the ball over the 'keeper and in to the back of the net. The home side now needed just one more goal to take the match to extra time and they had several chances before the final whistle.

With just minutes remaining Guedes Cleber fired in a shot from the edge of the area which Gomes parried away into the path of Brozek. This time however the Spurs 'keeper was able to gather the ball safely.

The match eventually ended one-all and that was enough go see Tottenham through to the group stages of the UEFA Cup 3-2 on aggregate and might just ease the pressure for the moment on their coach Juan de Ramos.
