John Galliano went tribal for the launch of his Christian Dior ready-to-wear 2009 Spring/Summer collection on Monday, tribal chic that is.

The rebel designer used studs, staples, chain mail and python leather to toughen up thigh-grazing summer dresses and see-through evening gowns in his collection, shown in a tent in the Tuileries gardens in front of celebrity guests including Emma Watson, Marion Cotillard, Eva Green and Dita Von Teese.

"I really liked the first, the first few looks. I love the classic Dior suits, hourglass shapes, those are the kind of things that I always look to add to my wardrobe because I love wearing suits," Von Teese told AP Television.

Models with hair crimped and teased into conical bobs strutted down the catwalk in fierce platform sandals, some of which featured intricately carved heels that resembled fertility statues.

The see-through evening gowns shown on the catwalk will likely be lined once they hit the shop floor, if only to cater to Dior's large Middle Eastern clientele.

Warm applause greeted Galliano as he took his bow.
