According to Askatasuna ( group supporting Basque prisoners) the 14 leaders and members of the banned Basque leftist party Batasuna arrested during the police operation carried out on Wednesday in Northern Basque Country have been released, including Xabi Larralde, spokesman of this organization.
Most of them were released in the two following days after being arrested and the five who were still hold in custody last night were finally released in the early morning.
The fourteen Batasuna members were arrested on Wednesday in a police operation carried out by the French Justice.
A detailed register has been carried out at Batasuna's headquarters in Bayonne but there was nothing there to justify the arrest of the leaders of the Basque organization.
Several Batasuna members who were released after being detained for some hours denounced that the operation did not develop with the collaboration of Spanish authorities, but that it was a "new repressive step" driven by French government. The aim of the arrest was to get "political information".
In this sense, Batasuna has organized a demonstration for today in Bayonne against the operation carries out these days. The demonstration will start at Esukaldunen Plaza Square at 16:00 under the following slogan: "Euskal Herria onartu eta errespetatu, herria aitzina, Batasuna aitzina" ("Accept and respect the Basque Country. Go on people. Go on Batasuna").
