Northern Basque Country's nine detainees released

Jean-Francois Lefort, Patrice Martinon and Aurore Martin were released in the last few hours.

Nine out of the 14 arrested during the police operation carried out on Wednesday in Northern Basque Country have been released. According to the Basque prisoners supporting group Askatasuna, those released are Eñaut Elosegi, Giuliano Cavaterra, Gwenaelle Morvan, Jokin Etxeberria, Jean-Francois Lefort, Aurore Martin, Patrice Martinon, Haritza Galarraga, Maider Duhalde.

Investigation sources assure some of the rest of the detainees may be released during the next hours.

On Thursday, French police resumed searching the offices of the banned Basque leftist party Batasuna in the city of Bayonne, together with the spokesman of the party, Sabih Larralde and judges Le Vert and Houyvet.

Meanwhile, Batasuna members Maite Goienetxea and Miguel Torres denounced yesterday the operation against the Basque leftist movement in Northern Basque Country and organized a demonstration in Bayonne on Saturday under the following slogan: “Accept and respect the Basque Country. Go on people. Go on Batasuna.
