Spanish investigators probing last month's plane crash in Madrid that killed 154 people say the wing flaps did not deploy during takeoff and the pilots were unaware of this because a cockpit warning horn did not go off.
The investigators have not said, however, that this actually caused the crash. They have offered no hypothesis as to what triggered Spain's worst air disaster in 25 years.
The findings in a preliminary report released Tuesday are based on data from the MD-82's flight data and cockpit voice recorders from the Aug. 20 crash of a Spanair flight, which killed 154 people. Eighteen people survived.
The report was carried in Spanish media. Spanair has confirmed Tuesday it has been distributed to the government and the plane's manufacturers.
