Basque Country's ruling Basque Nationalist Party and opposition socialists are in a virtual dead heat ahead of next elections for the Basque parliament, a survey released Thursday said.
Basque PM Juan Jose Ibarretxe's party would win 34 percent of the votes and between 24 and 27 seats if the election were held now, compared to 32 percent (between 25 and 28 seats) for the Basque socialist party.
According to the Basque Sociometer, a sociological statistical survey conducted by the Basque Country's Public University, it would be almost impossible for the tripartite government (PNV, EA and EB) to form government and for Ibarretxe to be the Basque PM.
The survey was conducted via telephone interviews among 1,800 Basques May 2nd to 20th.
