Basque Parliament will approve today Basque premier’s plan for referendum to be held October 25 in the three provinces of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country (Biscay, Alava, and Gipuzkoa). The Basque nationalist parties PNV and EA, the Basque communist party EB and the Basque leftist party Aralar will vote in favor of the proposal.
Moreover, one of the Parliamentary members of the Basque leftist party EHAK will also vote in favor of the referendum while the other 8 EHAK members will abstain. That way the plan for referendum will be approved with the majority needed.
The position of the nine members of this party is crucial because this only vote in favor might break the 33-tie between the tripartite (PNV-EA-EB) and Aralar, that support the referendum, and the Basque socialist party PSE-EE and the Popular Party PP, that are against it.
