Basque Prime Minister Juan José Ibarretxe has expressed this morning the "deepest condemnation" of Basque government about the attack in Legutiano in which the Spanish policeman Juan Manuel Piñuel has been killed. He has also declared that the heads of public institutions must not "resign" themselves to violence and have summoned to "take a risk" in favor of peace and to reach political agreements so that Basque people can decide their future.
Basque premier has also said that Basque government will support all the initiatives planned by the city hall in Legutiano condemning the attack and has summoned rallies for tomorrow outside all institutions.
In a press conference at the President’s office, Ibarretxe has said that there has been "another sad morning" and lamented himself about all "the sad mornings in the Basque Country, how much ETA is hurting Basque people, both the ones living here and the ones being killed".
Society, tired of ETA and politicians
He has pointed out that Basque society is "really sicked and tired" of the Basque armed group. Moreover, he has expressed his "deepest condemnation" about the attack. "I want to tell ETA not to ruin the name of the Basque people by using us as an excuse for extortion and murder. We're sick of your violence", Ibarretxe told reporters.
He has "firmly and energetically" condemned the attack and has shown his solidarity both with the family of the murdered civil guard, Juan Manuel Piñuel and with FSE (State Security Forces).
"What for?"
In his opinion, violence only generates hate and revenge. "ETA is the main obstacle for Basque people to build future". "ETA is not wanted, it just gets in the way. Besides, it kills human beings, simple people cruelly, cowardly. It kills working people, policemen, judges, and councilors. What for? Absolutely for nothing", has stated. He has also said that he will not resign to reach for "solutions" and has passed on "a hope message" to society.
