Basque Prime Minister Juan José Ibarretxe has sent the President of the Spanish government José Luis Rodríguez a letter in which he reminds him that he presented him last October his "sincere offer of the official opening of a negotiation to get a new coexistence political pact".
EiTB has accessed to the content of the missive, in which Ibarretxe points out that "it was long time ago" and "no meeting has been set yet" between them.
Ibarretxe is convinced that "the meeting between the President of the Spanish government and the Basque Prime Minister is possible". In this sense, he has announced Zapatero that even if there is a lack of meetings between them, he will not give up trying to create ways of solution.
Overall, he has pointed out that he wants to made an offer to him "to negotiate for a possible political pact" which he would have liked “to present personally to him to discuss it together with your proposals whenever you think it is the right moment".
Zapatero will phone Ibarretxe in the next days
The President of the Spanish government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, has already received the letter sent by Basque Prime Minister Juan José Ibarretxe, and is planning to phone him in the next days to arrange the date of the so expected meeting, according to the Spanish news agency Efe.
Zapatero’s intention is to contact Ibarretxe "soon" to set the meeting, which will take place before Basque Parliament discuss the Basque Prime Minister's proposal of summoning a referendum about Basque Country’s future on June 27th .
