Young British actor Thomas Sangster has been picked to play Tin Tin in a movie adaptation directed by Steven Spielberg.

The now 17-year-old A-level student is set for international stardom after landing the role , Thomas Sangster has already acted in the Richard Curtis film Love Actually as Liam Neeson's son, and with Emma Thompson in Nanny McPhee.

He was handpicked by Spielberg to bring to the big screen Herge's famous comic books in a new multi-million dollar film trilogy.

Filming is expected to begin in September, with the first movie released in 2010. One of three films will be directed by Spielberg, another possible director will be Lord of the Rings creator Peter Jackson.
