Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has said today that ETA wanted to interfere in Sunday’s elections but he has underlined that Spanish democracy has already shown that it does not and will not accept challenges from the ones confronting its basic principles. According to Zapatero, ETA is already "defeated and condemned" by society and its only fate is its "disappearance" and "prison".
Spanish president has added that "the perpetrators of this attack will be soon arrested and placed at the disposition of the justice system".
The Executive Chief has explained in the institutional statement that the armed organization has murdered a "worker" who had dedicated a part of his life in the "defense of fellow citizens’ interests" at Arrasate/Mondragón’s City Council where he was a councilor in the lists of Basque Socialist party.
After expressing his sympathies to the family because of the attack, Zapatero has sent ETA a message "categorically” declaring that the perpetrators of the attack will be "soon" arrested and placed at the disposition of the justice system so that they serve "severely" the sentence they deserve because the "atrocity" they have committed.
