AnimaNaturalis is going to organised the biggest naked protest against fur industry ever done. Almost 200 people appeared naked Sunday in front of Barcelona Cathedral, representing the high amount of animals needed to make an only fur coat. The aim is to raise people’s consciousness about the cruelty behind wearing fur garments.

Millions of foxes, minks, otters, lynxes, beavers, chinchillas and other species are raised in captivity or caught cruelly in order to strip them of their fur, which they really need it. Nowadays, we can wrap up warm with other kind of materials and even look elegant with them.

The animals raised to become fur coats spend all their life in dirty and tiny cages. Some of them become crazy due to the confinement and develop neurotic behaviours such as racing constantly around cages. Some animals mutilate themselves in an attempt to escape or they eat each other due to the bad conditions they live in.

In the fur farms, the animals are killed by anal or genital electrocution, which cause them the intense pain of a heart attack while they are still conscious. Other killing methods are breaking their neck or drowning them. Sometimes, the animals are just sedated before they are skinned.

Another lie spread by fur industry is saying that furs are biodegradable garments. However, they use heavy metals during tanning and they pour them into water, contaminating aquatic ecosystems. Spain, together with Greece, Italy and Germany, is a country where most of the fur garments are manufactured. Fur farms are mostly in the north of the country, but fur industry is mainly in Catalonia.

Nowadays, it is not necessary to kill animals to get their fur. Animals need their fur, we don’t.
