Spain's High Court has convicted 21 members of a Basque prisoner support group of belonging to the armed Basque group ETA, and sentenced them to jail terms of between 8 and 10 years.

The 21 are part of Gestoras Pro Amnistia and its successor, Askatasuna, which campaign for the release of jailed members of ETA.

Reading Wednesday's sentence, Judge Teresa Palacios also ordered the banning of the two groups. That completes a process that began in the last few years when they were provisionally banned for working for ETA.

The trial was held in July.
