The British production 'The Other Man', starring Liam Neeson, Antonio Banderas, Laura Linney and directed by Richard Eyre, will open the 56th San Sebastian Film Festival. Based on the tale by the German author, Bernard Schlink, in his book Liebesfluchten/Flights of Love, the film describes a love triangle and a romantic obsession with elements of intrigue.

Director Richard Eyre, who debuted with a long career in British TV, has shown particular talent for the dramatic portrayal of amorous relationships in all their complexity with films like Iris (2001), Stage Beauty (2004) and Notes on a Scandal (2006).

Liam Neeson, Oscar candidate for Schlinder’s List, Antonio Banderas, Laura Linney, three times Oscar nominee (You Can Count On Me, Savages, Kinsey) and Romola Garai are the major names on the cast of this production shot in the UK and Italy, which will open San Sebastian Festival out-of-competition.

Closing Night Film

The San Sebastian Festival will be brought to a close by ''The Brothers Bloom, second feature from the director of the famous film Brick, Rian Johnson. Oscar winners Adrien Brody ('The Pianist') and Rachel Weisz ('The Constant Gardener'), Mark Ruffalo and the Oscar candidate Rinku Kikuchi ('Babel'), will star in 'The Brothers Bloom', confirming the talent and personality of Rian Johnson as screenwriter and director of the film.

'The Brothers Bloom' is a comedy leading the swindling Bloom brothers on a peculiar adventure all over the world, in a surprising mixture of genres. Rian Johnson dazzled in 2005 with 'Brick', one of the most highly acclaimed films in recent independent cinema, which won the Special Jury Prize at Sundance, Best Directorial Revelation at Sitges, and several awards from American critics’ associations, among others.

Competition

In addition to the thirteen films competing in the Official Selection and already announced, are another two titles, the Canadian 'Maman est chez le coiffeur', and the French 'Louise-Michel'.

'Maman est chez le coiffeur' is the new film from the Canadian director Léa Pool, author of prize-winning films like 'La demoiselle sauvage' (1991), 'Emporte-moi' (1999), 'Lost and Delirious' (2001) and 'The Blue Butterfly' (2004).

The French film 'Louise-Michel' is a black comedy written and directed by Benoît Delépine & Gustave Kervern, authors of the prize-winning films 'Aaltra' (2004) and 'Avida' (2006). 'Louise-Michel' is presented as a “half-anarchist, half-burlesque adventure” looking with dark humour at the consequences of downsizing when a group of women rebels.

The incorporation of 'Maman est chez le coiffeur and Louise-Michel' will bring to fifteen the number of films competing for the Golden Shell and the other prizes awarded at San Sebastian Festival.
