A Spanish judge says he is probing the possibility of bringing new charges against a member of the armed Basque group ETA released from jail over the weekend after serving 21 years for murder and other charges.

Judge Pablo Ruz says he wants to know if Iñaki de Juana Chaos can be charged with praising terrorism. That is a crime in Spain.

The judge says in a writing issued Monday he wants police to provide him with the text of a letter written by de Juana Chaos and read in his name at a rally Saturday in Donostia-San Sebastian.

De Juana Chaos was released from a Madrid-area prison earlier Saturday. He served 21 years after being convicted of 25 murders and writing newspaper articles from prison that were deemed to be terrorist threats.
